VU BS Lateral in Mathematics
The BS-Lateral in Mathematics program is intended for students who have completed 14 years of education and wish to advance their studies in the field of Mathematics. As a discipline, Mathematics is central to modern society and underpins a wide range of careers. Graduates in Mathematics are in high demand and find opportunities in teaching, finance and investment banking, civil services, pharmaceuticals, and medical statistics. The advanced problem-solving, logical reasoning, and numerical skills gained during this program make Mathematics graduates highly employable.
This program offers students:
The opportunity to broaden their understanding of Mathematics and its applications through graduate-level coursework.
Preparation for professional careers in education, business, industry, and research institutions.
A strong academic foundation for pursuing advanced studies in Mathematics, comprehensive subject knowledge, and the ability to decide on a career path as mathematicians.
Objectives
An opportunity to deepen students’ knowledge across various branches of Mathematics and its applications through advanced-level courses.
A distinctive academic experience delivered through a high-quality, internationally aligned program.
Strong preparation for professional careers in education, business, industry, and research organizations.
For students interested in pursuing further studies, the program offers comprehensive knowledge of Mathematics and its applications, along with guidance
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates holding a 2-year Associate Degree in the relevant discipline from an HEC-recognized institution are eligible for direct entry into the 5th semester of the BS program.
Applicants with an Associate Degree in another field or a conventional BA/BSc (annual system) must complete a bridging/deficiency semester to cover academic gaps.
The minimum eligibility criteria are:
CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 for Associate Degree holders under the semester system.
45% marks for BA/BSc or equivalent under the annual system.
The University reserves the right to apply stricter admission standards for specific programs.
Assessment Criteria
Students’ academic progress is measured through a continuous assessment system that includes assignments, quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), mid-term, and final-term examinations.
| Assessment Tool | Weightage |
|---|---|
| Semester Activities (Assignments, GDBs, Quizzes) | 10% – 20% |
| Mid-term Examination | 20% – 30% |
| Final-term Examination | 60% |
| Total | 100% |
Project / Internship
As part of the BS-Lateral Mathematics program, students must complete an internship (3 credit hours) and a capstone project (3 credit hours) during their final two semesters. The selection between internship and project is left to the student’s choice; however, consultation with the academic advisor is mandatory. Upon completion, students are required to submit a comprehensive report and deliver a final presentation of their work.
