VU BS Lateral in Mass Communication

Objectives

After completing the BS Mass Communication program, graduates will be able to:

  • Gain knowledge of theoretical frameworks and historical developments in mass communication, while also exploring connections with interdisciplinary fields.

  • Strengthen creative and critical thinking abilities, and effectively apply ICT tools, analytical reasoning, and quantitative methods to assess media content and its impact.

  • Acquire cross-disciplinary understanding to examine the intersections of mass communication with various domains.

  • Apply practical skills through hands-on experiences that complement and reinforce theoretical learning within the discipline.

Admission Eligibility

  • Applicants holding a 2-year Associate Degree in Mass Communication/Journalism from an HEC-recognized institution are eligible for direct admission into the 5th semester of the BS program.

  • Candidates with an Associate Degree in another field or a conventional BA/BSc (annual system) will be required to complete a bridging/deficiency semester to cover academic gaps.

  • The minimum eligibility criteria are:

    • 2.00/4.00 CGPA for Associate Degree holders under the semester system.

    • 45% marks for BA/BSc or equivalent under the annual system.

  • The University reserves the right to apply higher standards of admission for certain programs.

Assessment Criteria

Students’ academic progress is assessed through a continuous evaluation system that includes assignments, online quizzes, and Graded Moderated Discussion Boards (GDBs), along with mid-term and final examinations. The mid-term and final exams are held at VU’s designated examination centers and generally contribute 80–85% of the total course marks.
