VU BS Lateral in Mass Communication
The Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication aims to create a dynamic and stimulating learning environment that fosters creativity, embraces diversity, and challenges students to think critically about human values, cultural variations, and societal issues. The program is designed to prepare graduates for careers in print and telecommunications media. Its curriculum emphasizes three major areas: Print Media, Electronic Media, and Digital Media.
Objectives
After completing the BS Mass Communication program, graduates will be able to:
Gain knowledge of theoretical frameworks and historical developments in mass communication, while also exploring connections with interdisciplinary fields.
Strengthen creative and critical thinking abilities, and effectively apply ICT tools, analytical reasoning, and quantitative methods to assess media content and its impact.
Acquire cross-disciplinary understanding to examine the intersections of mass communication with various domains.
Apply practical skills through hands-on experiences that complement and reinforce theoretical learning within the discipline.
Admission Eligibility
Applicants holding a 2-year Associate Degree in Mass Communication/Journalism from an HEC-recognized institution are eligible for direct admission into the 5th semester of the BS program.
Candidates with an Associate Degree in another field or a conventional BA/BSc (annual system) will be required to complete a bridging/deficiency semester to cover academic gaps.
The minimum eligibility criteria are:
2.00/4.00 CGPA for Associate Degree holders under the semester system.
45% marks for BA/BSc or equivalent under the annual system.
The University reserves the right to apply higher standards of admission for certain programs.
Assessment Criteria
Students’ academic progress is assessed through a continuous evaluation system that includes assignments, online quizzes, and Graded Moderated Discussion Boards (GDBs), along with mid-term and final examinations. The mid-term and final exams are held at VU’s designated examination centers and generally contribute 80–85% of the total course marks.
